How it works

How the FizzWizz carbonates

You set a target carbonation level. The FizzWizz reads temperature and tank pressure, works out the finish pressure, and holds it until you are ready to package.

The calculation

Pressure and temperature set the carbonation

For any given temperature, there is exactly one equilibrium pressure that holds a given volume of dissolved CO₂. The FizzWizz works backwards from the carbonation you want to that pressure, and keeps recalculating as conditions change.

A tank that warms overnight needs more pressure to hold the same carbonation. The FizzWizz notices and adjusts automatically.

1

Set the target

You enter the carbonation level you want, in volumes of CO₂.

2

Read the temperature

The WizzTemp probe reports the product temperature.

3

Read the tank pressure

A pressure transducer reports the pressure in the tank.

4

Calculate the finish pressure

The FizzWizz works out the pressure needed to reach your target at that temperature.

5

Add CO₂ and hold

It adds CO₂ through the carbonation stone until the tank reaches that pressure, then holds it.

Why temperature accuracy matters

A probe that reads warm makes the FizzWizz calculate less CO₂ than the product needs, so it ends up under-carbonated. The WizzTemp sensor is required, and a simple ice-water test confirms it is accurate.

Inside the unit

Three gas circuits, three jobs

CO₂ inlet

Your CO₂ supply connects through a regulator, typically set to 30–40 psi. A one-way check valve stops gas flowing back toward the regulator if the supply runs out, and a manifold distributes the gas to the three solenoids.

Stone circuit

This is the circuit that carbonates. Gas passes a solenoid and a flow controller, then travels down the stone hose and into the tank through the carbonation stone. The WizzStone-Combo stone has 0.5 micron pores, which gives very fine bubbles and high CO₂ transfer.

Arm circuit

The arm connects the FizzWizz to the tank head, not to the product. It applies head pressure during packaging and senses the head space pressure. A separator catches liquid and foam before they can travel back up the hose.

Operation

A display, three buttons and five modes

There is no touchscreen and no menu tree. Everything is controlled from the front panel.

The display

Three live readings: CO₂ regulator pressure, tank pressure (shown as Brite psi) and product temperature.

Carbonation

The normal mode. It calculates the finish pressure for your target, adds CO₂ through the stone until the tank reaches it, and holds it as temperature and pressure change.

Pre-scrub

Prepares the system before carbonation. A pre-scrub cycle purges the lines and brings the circuit to a known state.

Head pressure

Used during packaging. It keeps the product at its target carbonation while you keg, can or bottle, by regulating pressure between the tank and the filling system.

CO₂ flow control

Sets the rate at which CO₂ is delivered through the stone, using the flow controller on the side of the unit.

Venting

Releases pressure to atmosphere through the vent valve, operated from the front panel.

Protection

Built to keep fluid out

Product reaching parts of the unit that were never meant to see it is the main cause of failures, so the FizzWizz is designed around keeping it out.

  • An arm separator catches liquid and foam before they reach the unit. It is the single most important protective part.
  • Inline and sanitary check valves stop product flowing back through the stone circuit.
  • Circuit and sensor boards carry a heat-cured conformal coating that resists condensation. It reduces the risk but does not make the electronics waterproof.
  • Ultraviolet anti-microbial lamps keep the lines to the stone inhospitable to microbial growth.
  • Internal tubing is FDA food-grade.
