Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about what the FizzWizz does, what you need, and how support works.
What it is and what you need
Is the FizzWizz only for beer?
No. The FizzWizz manages forced carbonation in the tank, so it works for beer, cider, kombucha, seltzer and other carbonated beverages. You set the carbonation level your beverage needs.
How does it decide how much pressure to hold?
You enter a target carbonation level. The FizzWizz reads product temperature and tank pressure, calculates the finish pressure needed at that temperature, adds CO₂ through the stone until it gets there, and holds it. It keeps recalculating as conditions change.
Do I need a temperature sensor?
Yes. The WizzTemp sensor is required, because temperature drives the calculation. If the probe reads warm, the product will end up under-carbonated, so it is worth checking its accuracy with an ice-water test.
What else do I need to buy?
Besides the unit and the WizzTemp sensor, an installation uses a carbonation stone assembly, hoses, check valves and an arm separator. The Foot Pressure Sensor, WizzKoga Selector, battery backup and ultrasonic cleaner are optional. The System & Accessories page lists everything.
Mounting, supply and day-to-day care
Where can I mount it?
On a wall, a tank or another surface. The unit is 15.2 cm wide, 26.9 cm high and 14.5 cm deep (6 × 10.6 × 5.7 in).
What CO₂ supply does it need?
A CO₂ supply connected through a regulator, typically set to 30–40 psi.
Can one FizzWizz manage several tanks or stones?
It can manage multiple carbonation stones at the same time. For sites with several tanks, the WizzKoga Selector switches up to six tank temperature sensors between one or two FizzWizz units.
How do I keep liquid out of the unit?
Always use an arm separator, which catches liquid and foam before it reaches the unit. Check valves in the stone circuit stop product flowing back. The boards are conformal coated against condensation, but that does not make the electronics waterproof, so keep liquid out of the enclosure.
How often should I clean the carbonation stone?
A dirty stone is one of the leading causes of low carbonation, so regular cleaning matters. Stones can be cleaned in the field, including in the BrewWizz ultrasonic stone cleaner. Ask us what interval suits your product.
What happens if the power goes out?
A battery backup keeps the unit running through brownouts and short power cuts. A full charge lasts about an hour, depending on operating mode, and recharging from empty takes about 12 hours.
Keeping an eye on it remotely
What alerts does the FizzWizz send?
It detects and notifies you about diminishing CO₂ supply, misconnections, leaking fittings, glycol system issues and carbonation stone inefficiencies. Depending on your plan, alerts arrive in the app, by email and by SMS.
Does monitoring cost extra?
Remote monitoring and alerts run on a BrewWizz IoT subscription, currently $126 CAD per year. The calculation tools in the BrewWizz web app are free for all brewers.
How does it connect?
The FizzWizz is Wi-Fi enabled and reports to your BrewWizz account over your network.
Getting help
Who do I contact for support or parts?
Call Guy Tipton on 1-902-874-1348 for technical support, or Colin Meagher on 1-902-874-1254 for general inquiries and purchasing. You can also email [email protected]. Have your FizzWizz serial number ready.
Is there anything I should do before I call?
Yes. The FizzWizz has a structured seven-check Health Check that takes about 30 minutes. A completed results form with the measured values is the most useful thing you can send us.
What does the warranty cover?
The ultrasonic stone cleaner and battery backup carry a 12-month back-to-base warranty from the date of purchase. For the FizzWizz unit and other components, contact us for current terms.
What can I service myself?
Stone cleaning, O-ring replacement, check valve duck bill replacement and solenoid cleaning are all field jobs. A cleaned solenoid is a temporary fix, so plan to replace it. Epoxy-welded joints are sealed and leak tested at the factory and should not be unscrewed.
Still have a question?
Call or email and one of our Brew Wizzes will get back to you.
