Automation Doesn’t Replace the Brewer

Automated carbonation takes gauge-watching off the brewer’s plate. It doesn’t take judgement away, and it gives back data to judge with.

When brewers hear “automated carbonation”, some hear “set it and forget it”, and some hear “the machine thinks it knows my beer better than I do”. Neither is quite right.

What it takes off your plate

Manual forced carbonation means picking a pressure from a chart, setting the regulator, and checking back. If the temperature moves, the right pressure moves with it, and someone has to notice.

FizzWizz takes over that loop. It reads product temperature and tank pressure, calculates the finish pressure for your target, adds CO2 through the stone until it gets there, and keeps recalculating as conditions change. That’s the repetitive part.

“It really does automate something that used to be fairly hands on. Removes a lot of the operator error as well.” Kevin Freer, Block Three Brewing Co.

What stays with you

The decisions that matter are still yours:

  • The target. Every style has its own ideal carbonation, and you set it (Volumes of CO2, Explained).
  • The equipment. Matching stone to tank and setting flow rate is brewer judgement, informed by your plots (Sizing a Carbonation Stone).
  • The schedule. When to start the run so it finishes when your crew needs it.
  • The process choices. Whether to pre-scrub, what start temperature to use for a warm-arriving product.

What you get back

Automation’s real gift is information. FizzWizz logs temperature and pressure through every run, so you can see what happened instead of guessing. Our high-starting-pressure and perfect plot articles are both built on exactly that data.

And alerts mean the system tells you when something isn’t right: low CO2, a misconnection, a leak, a glycol issue, a stone that isn’t performing.

The brewer is still the brewer

A good assistant doesn’t replace a skilled person. It handles the routine so the skilled person can spend their attention where it counts. That’s what we built FizzWizz to do.
