# WizzStone Combo: Assembly and Take-Apart

## Why it's called a combo

Two features in one unit: a holder for the **ceramic diffuser** (your carbonation stone) and a **built-in thermowell** for the FizzWizz temperature sensor. The sensor slides in underneath the carrier. If you're wondering why the sensor needs its own well, see [What Is a Thermowell](/what-is-a-thermowell/).

## What's in the box

- 2 ceramic diffusers with O-ring seals pre-installed (shipped wrapped in plastic covers)
- Spare stainless steel cotter pins
- Spare orange O-ring seals
- Food-grade, FDA-approved lube
- A cleaning brush sized for the inside of the ceramic diffuser (see [how to clean your carbonation stone](/clean-carbonation-stone/))

## Assembly

1. Keep the carbonation stone **horizontal, aligned with the thermowell** running underneath the carrier.
2. Push the diffuser all the way in.
3. Slide the **keyed end cap** on (it only fits one way) and push it home until the small hole lines up.
4. Insert the **cotter pin**. It clips in and can't fall out. One pin holds the whole assembly together, so never run it without the pin.

## Take-apart (after it's been in the tank)

Beer makes everything sticky, so removal is harder than assembly:

1. Pull the cotter pin.
2. Push gently. One end or the other will reveal an O-ring seal.
3. If the end-cap end reveals the O-ring, the end cap comes off.
4. **Do not lever the ceramic tube upward.** Keep it horizontal with the thermowell and give it a small twist until it pops out. Or slide the whole assembly apart and pull the end cap off gently.

## The lube rule

If assembly is stiff, use the **tiniest dab** of the food-grade lube. A speck does both ends. Then drop the stone back in your sanitizer bucket for a while to wash off any residue before it goes in a tank.

**Questions on fitment?** [Contact us](/contact/) and send a photo of your tank port.
